Just goofing around a little today and now have a live feed of my scanner streaming to the internet for any and all to listen to..  This is a video feed being taken via a webcam and the audio is taken from the external speaker connection of the scanner (a small isolation transformer is used to decouple the audio), add a little internet magic and viola.. anyone can listen to my scanner and hear whats going on in the parish or anything else programmed in.  Not too shabby for a scanner I've had laying about for the last 20 years or so.  The feed should be up 24/7 with only a few seconds lag for listeners.

skywarn  On March 11, 2010 in coordination with the Amateur Radio Club of Sabine (ARCS) and the Office of Homeland Security (Sabine Parish, LA) the National Weather Service (Shreveport, LA office) conducted our annual SkyWarn training.  These training sessions serve to certify and train Storm Spotters how to recognize, observe and report potential damaging weather.

These training sessions are not limited to amateur radio operators, all public service offices are encouraged to attend, as well as the general public.

We had a good turn out this year, many local "hams", fire, law enforcement and a number of folks we'll call "concerned citizens" were in attendance.  The training lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, time very well spent as the material presented was excellent, focused on OUR local area and the patterns observed as well as many locally filmed videos shot by trained and untrained spotters.

When you see a vehicle bearing the above Skywarn decal, know this vehicle is operated by a trained Spotter.  When you hear the NWS broadcast speak of "spotter activations" or "a trained spotter reported...." these are the volunteers being referred to.

You can listen in to our Skywarn Nets when they are activated with your scanner on the frequency of 147.280, these nets will be activated any time there is severe weather, you can hear the activities of local weather spotters and keep up to the minute with what is being observed.  This should not replace a weather radio monitoring NWS, as it is fully staffed by volunteers and though best efforts are made to ensure everyone is activated in a timely fashion things do cause delays and we report directly to the NWS.

For more information about becoming a Skywarn spotter, please contact the NWS office in Shreveport, for more information about becoming an Amateur Radio operator and/or our Skywarn or other activities please follow the Contact Us links near the top of the page and we'll be happy to assist.

Thanks again to Kieth and Brandi for coming down from NWS to conduct the training! We hope it will not be needed, however keeping with the motto "Hope for the best, but plan for the worst" we sure appreciate your time and efforts.
