Its almost THAT time again. November 12th is just around the corner. That's the night of our club meeting (7:00pm), which is always the second Thursday of each month. AND ..  Don't forget about our NET nights on every Tuesdays at 8:00 PM. To bring you up-to-date on another function of the club, we also have a NET (now) on the 444.200 repeater at 8:30pm right after our regular net on the 147.280 repeater. The tone for it is 173.8. So .. Come on and join us. So far for the month of October we have had 80 check ins with 9 of them being on the 444.200 repeater.

We completed our FIRST 'fox hunt' on October 31st. Yours truly was the fox. It took one hour and twenty minutes for K5GRM to find me. That was great timing. Another mile stone was the fact that he found me using a home made 'TAPE MEASURE' beam antenna. He can tell you about the antenna. He will also be the FOX for our next hunt. By the way, we had 9 hunters involved.

To change the subject a bit .. start thinking about prizes as well as DOOR prizes for our HAMFEST coming up on June 12th. We also need to be thinking about what we will serve as far as food. Last year, I think we did pretty good. Most people enjoyed everything. However you are invited to come up with some ideas as to what you think might be good. Also keep in mind that any and all donations will be greatly appreciated as well as excepted.

I haven't heard anything as yet about our becoming 'affiliated' with ARRL. Hopefully I can get some information on that by our next meeting on the 12th.

There are plenty of hamfests coming up. There's one in Minden ( not sure of the date). There's also the Orange (Tx) fest in February which is followed by Rayne (La) in March. Somewhere between Minden and Orange, there are a couple. Pick one and go. You can get things there for our club  to use as door prizes. You might even pick up a few things you need as well.

That's about it for now. I'll say HAPPY HOLLOWEEN. Save your candy .. go out and scare some one.

From W5CQG   P.S.   Dave might have a few words to add. Soooo go ahead N0TRQ

A Note from Joe (KE5NYS)...

Howdy from the piney woods of East Texas. Our local Club (LAARC) at <www.w5jas.org> is now EchoLink mated to our local repeater at 147.000 (-) 118.8 PL, via EchoLink Node number 480827 (W5JAS-R). We'd welcome your contact. We have a short traffic net on the repeater very Tuesday evening at 8PM cst, and a monthly meeting on last Thursday of every month at 7PM at the Jasper County Courthouse in downtown Jasper (downstairs back entrance on Austin Street). Thanks and please make your local club aware of these EchoLink addresses. 73, Joe Lanier, KE5NYS

Well .. We had our club meeting Thursday night (at the EOC). There were seventeen members there. We also had coffee and cake after the meeting.

We even managed to get a few things accomplished. Those being the Constitution as well as the By-Laws. With that part done, we can now move toward becoming affiliated with ARRL. That in itself is a large chore. Thanks fellas.

Here's something .. I will be your HamFest chairperson again for this next year. I've already got some helpers also. Hopefully (with their help) we will have a much better FEST next June.

Keep this in mind, while it's on MY mind .. On the 29th (at the EOC) we will be testing anyone wishing to get their amateur licenses, or upgrade their present licenses. The time will be from 5pm 'til 7pm. Bring a copy of your 'ticket' and a picture I.D.  Also let's NOT forget about the 'fox hunt' that is coming up on the 31st of this month. The starting time is 8am and all who are participating are asked to be there (at the EOC in Many) by THAT time. Otherwise you might be left out of the 'fun'.

I mentioned up above about our HamFest for next year. It looks to me as though June the 10th (Saturday) will be the date. So start gearing up. Your help is needed. We need door prizes, drinks, ice, food .. and cakes (of course). If we have it at the EOC, I believe we will have plenty of tables and chairs (I could be wrong on that). Be thinking about what we might want to give as prizes.

That's all from me for now. Maybe Dave (N0TRQ) can add something. I'll see you on the 29th (or 31st).  W5CQG   aka:  Cecil

Notes from Dave (N0TRQ)

I would like to take a moment to extend a large thank you to Ashley (KF5BQW) for picking up the reigns and filling in as they Acting Secratary for ARCS, both personally and collectively on behalf of the club!

Just a follow up on the Fox Hunt, please RSVP if possible, I'll be picking up some coffee and donuts for the Hounds (a guesstimate of participants would be helpful), we plan on starting the Hunt at 8am, so arriving a bit earlier would ensure a quick snack beforehand.  Additionally, as I mentioned Susan (N0TRS) will be doing her best to provide an additional prize or the winner of the hunt.  Maps of the area, as well as last minute instructions, etc. will be provided at the EOC. Any needing assistance in constructing an RDF antenna, attenuators, wtc... I will gladly volunteer my services and lend a hand.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, VE Testing will start promptly at 5pm on the 29th. A FAQ has been written up that should answer most questions, this article is available here and will remain under the Resources and FAQ section headings.

That's all I have for now.
